Thirty years in creative visual communication.

A continued interest in people, ideas and change.

I bring together creative direction, graphic design, visual communication, mentoring and coaching to help people find greater clarity in their work.

I have worked for over 30 years as a creative director, graphic designer and visual communicator, helping people and organisations shape the way they present themselves and communicate their ideas.

Over that time, I have become increasingly interested not only in the finished creative work, but in the people behind it, the decisions, doubts, blocks, ambitions and transitions that shape how people create.

My creative background

My career has been rooted in visual communication, understanding what needs to be said, who it is for, and how to express it clearly and meaningfully.

I have worked across graphic design, creative direction, branding, packaging design, printed communication, campaigns, presentations, wayfinding, websites and visual storytelling. Across all of this work, I have always been interested in the relationship between ideas, images, words and people.

Good design is not only about appearance. It is about judgement, clarity, purpose and communication.

I have been fortunate throughout my career working with major brands such as Adidas, Apple, Guinness, MTV Europe, Laphroaig, Sky, Virgin, Jura, plus many others.

Like everyone out there, you have to start somewhere and make the best of every opportunity you can get, and that is exactly what I did. I started as a Graphic designer all those years ago and then further developed my career in Marketing, Media, PR, and Brand Development.

During this time, new techniques and technologies arrived, making it essential for me to develop my skills further. Internet Marketing, Direct Marketing, and Visual Communications started to grow at a rate with the birth of Social Media and SEO Development and Management; the list goes on!

Over 30 years, and 100’s of successful campaigns achieved, I have grown into a fully focused and fully equipped design, brand, and media communications force. As a result, I have developed a very effective and successful network of specialists and a team that is ready to take on the most demanding and simplest of projects. Everything out there changes from day to day with new developments, new markets, different ways to communicate, and barriers that sometimes change how you work or have initially planned. Keeping you ahead and up to date with all of these is what I do; that's what I am all about.

I have learned over the years to keep knowledgeable about what changes are happening, especially with the ever-changing environment we are experiencing. Businesses and organisations suffer when they start to get lost or left behind in the evolving marketplace they serve. This can be as simple as making sure your website is being found and reacts with your target audience correctly, or your brand image is giving out the right messages and attracting the potential clients you want.

When you have worked within as many sectors over the years as I have, it is obvious that I would develop a large business network. This has become a very useful attribute to me and my clients. It’s amazing how many of these businesses or organisations find it helpful to tap into my network and develop new channels and cooperation as a result. It’s all part of the communication process which I have developed. And it just keeps growing! Across Europe and the UK, I have built a strong understanding of cross-markets and what is needed to achieve results.

How my work has evolved

As my career developed, I became more aware of the conversations that sit behind creative work.

People often arrive with a design problem, but underneath that there may be a question about confidence, direction, identity, change or uncertainty. A website may not feel right because the organisation has changed.

A portfolio may feel difficult to present because the person behind it is unsure how to describe themselves. A creative block may have less to do with talent and more to do with pressure, doubt or transition.

This realisation has shaped the next chapter of my work.

The people behind the work

Creative work is rarely separate from the person making it.
The choices people make, the confidence they have, the way they respond to feedback, the pressure they carry and the changes they are going through can all affect the quality and direction of the work.
That is why my approach is not only concerned with what something looks like, but with what is happening behind it.

What I do now

Today, my work brings together creative direction, visual communication, mentoring, coaching and counselling-informed support.

I work with individuals, creative professionals and organisations who want to communicate more clearly, make better creative decisions, develop their confidence or find a clearer way forward.

Creative Direction & Visual Communication

Helping people and organisations shape clearer, stronger communication.

Mentoring for New Creatives

Supporting new designers and emerging creatives as they develop their work, confidence and direction.

Creative Coaching for Professional Creatives

Helping experienced creatives work through blocks, uncertainty, transition or change.

Career Development for Creatives

Supporting creative people to understand their strengths, position themselves and plan their next step.

My approach

My approach is practical, thoughtful and collaborative.

I listen carefully, ask useful questions and help people see what may be unclear, overlooked or unresolved. Sometimes the work is about shaping a visual direction. Sometimes it is about understanding a creative block, reviewing a portfolio, clarifying a career step or making sense of a larger transition.

I do not believe in forcing quick answers. I believe in creating the right conditions for clearer thinking, better decisions and more confident creative work.

Clarity

Understanding what needs to be said, changed or developed.

Direction

Finding a useful way forward.

Confidence

Helping people trust their judgement and make better decisions.

What I believe

I believe good creative work starts with clarity of thought, message, purpose and direction.

I also believe that people often do their best creative work when they feel properly heard, thoughtfully challenged and supported to understand what matters.

Whether I am working on a brand, a website, a portfolio, a creative block or a career question, my role is to help bring things into clearer focus.

If you are looking for creative direction, visual communication, mentoring, coaching or support with your next creative step, I would be happy to hear from you.

You do not need to arrive with everything fully formed. Often, the first conversation is simply about understanding where you are and what kind of support might be useful.
